Alexa Chung loves her Topshop 'Jamie' pink jeans!

                                 

 

Alexa Chung loves her Topshop MOTO pink 'Jamie' skinny jeans! On all three occassions (so far) that she has worn them, she keeps the top half to a muted dark shade, to keep the attention on her jeans. 


She was picture in New York (above, left) hailing a cab, pairing her jeans with a dark knitted jumper over a white shirt with turned-up sleeves. She kept her accessories neutral, with a small beige crochet holdall, pale brogues, and dark shades. 


She wore the jeans again, this time at the airport, with a vintage band tee, cross-body black quilted Chanel bag, cat-eye sunglasses, and Russell & Bromley lace up boots. On this occassion she added a slick of red lippie.


To complete the transformation from day-to-night, Alexa last wore her jeans to an event, paired with a navy polka-dot shirt, loose-fitting black blazer, black lace-up booties, and the same Chanel cross-body as before. 


Alexa is known to continuously re-wear items of clothing that she loves, so I'm sure these jeans will be making many more appearances in the near future.

Michelle Obama in Gap

                     

 

FLOTUS (First Lady of the United States), Michelle Obama, was spotted heading off to Camp David for a rare weekend retreat, wearing this 'Impressionist' print draped dress from Gap. 


As Michelle is very tall she wore hers as a tunic with wide-leg 3/4 length white trousers, black sandals and a Lambertson Truex lime green bag. 


Mrs O's dress is reduced to just £19.99 in the sale but be quick if you want to sport the same dress as there's not many left!

Who wore it better? January Jones vs. Pixie Geldof

                       

 

'X-Men: First Class' and 'Mad Men' actress January Jones was spotted (excuse the pun!) in these Topshop palazzo pants recently, while running errands in LA. She kept them as the focal point of her outfit by just adding a plain black top, a cropped denim jacket, brown tortoiseshell sunglasses and a black patent Doctor's bag. 
British 'model' and daughter of Bob, Pixie Geldof, also owns these trousers but chose a different approach to styling them. She teamed hers with the matching polka-dot shirt, also from Topshop, black suede platform pumps, a long silver crucifix and a small black bag. 


I'm really not a fan of how either of these ladies styled their pants, but I prefer Pixie's look as she has committed to the look and added heels, which are a necessary component to palazzo pants!

Nicola Roberts in Topshop

Nicola Roberts, of British girl group Girls Aloud, performed at the Metro Radio Live event in Newcastle earlier this week, along with The Saturdays. She was spotted the next day, en route to Liverpool to perform at a concert in her hometown. 


She displayed her usual eclectic style, wearing a purple denim jacket, animal print Mulberry 'Alexa' bag and Topshop silver platform heels. The heels have a very space-age vibe and would be perfect to wear on stage so I'm sure we will see Nicola wear these again at some point. 


These heels are so new they are not yet available on Topshop's website but keep your eyes peeled for them!

Runway to Realway: Fruits!

Everyone's gone bananas! Quite literally in Prada's case as they presented shirts and skirts emblazoned with the fruit for their Spring/Summer '11 collection, along with its favourite tasters, monkeys. And they weren't the only ones offering a visual treat; many of the pieces in Stella McCartney's S/S show featured a smattering of grapefruits, lemons, and grapes, plus Suno created a very wearable fruit print midi skirt in their S/S collection. And it would appear that it is a trend that is not about to die down anytime soon as Anna Sui has just presented an autumnal twist on assortment of berries and citrus fruits in her Resort 2012 collection.

The High Street has, of course, interpreted this trend in a very wearable way. Zara have created a very Stella-esque citrus-print blouse, while River Island have squashed two trends into one by creating a very chic stripe-and-fruit top, as well as a fruity romper.

Who wore it better? Kate Middleton vs. Lydia Bright

Kate Middleton caused near hysteria when she wore the Reiss 'Shola' dress last month to greet President Obama and his wife Michelle, in London. 

It sold out within hours but one person who did manage to bag one is Lydia Bright, 'star' of The Only Way Is Essex (TOWIE). She wore hers on a shopping trip with black patent platform pumps, a two-tone bowling bag, and a metallic necklace similar to the Princess'.

I think this is a good argument for dressing for your shape as the dress appears quite ill-fitting on Lydia- it creases across the hips but is gaping around the bust and shoulders. I think Lydia knows this as she does not look too confident in it.

Hailee Steinfeld loves Aldo pumps!

Actress Hailee Steinfeld, who was nominated for 'Best Supporting Actress' at this years Oscars for her role in 'True Grit', made huge waves on the party circuit for her fashion choices. She was immaculately turned out for every red-carpet event she attended, whether in Prada for the SAG awards, or Marchesa at the Academy Awards. 

One recurring theme in many of her looks are these Aldo 'Hoxworth' black patent mary-jane almond-toe pumps. Hailee wore them on at least four occassions, including with her Marc Jacobs polka-dot scallop-skirt dress (above, centre). They are a relatively safe choice and go with every outfit, but Hailee is very experimental in the clothes she wears, so a safe pump is probably the best option for her. Also, not forgetting that she is only 14 (!) so her stylist probably just wanted to stick with what was most comfortable for her to wear for hours on end!

Hailee has also been spotted in a pair of red suede Aldo pumps, which she wore with an Alberta Ferretti dress and H&M red rosette clutch to another event. I thought it was very sweet that after the (very-long) Oscars ceremony, she changed into battered red Converse trainers for the Vanity Fair Oscars party, which she wore with her princess-like Marchesa dress. 

 

Hailee has caught the attention of many in the fashion world and has just been named as the new face of Miu Miu! Why were these opportunities not around when we were 14...

Amy Smart's shopping bag at French Connection

                    

 

Actress Amy Smart, who has starred in 'Just Friends' and 'Shameless', amongst others, recently visited the French Connection store in SoHo, New York. She left the store wearing the 'Holly' jacket.


She also picked up the 'Bethany' knitted vest, 'Apollo' crepe dress in teal, and the 'Rainbow Striped' Oversize   tee. I love the dress she bought! It will look great against her blonde hair and surfer tan so hopefully we see her at an event wearing that soon!

Rebecca Ferguson in Zara

                   

 

Former X Factor contestant Rebecca Ferguson, who is currently starring in the Walkers crisps ads, was recently spotted rocking a very 60s look in this Zara floral tulip shape dress. She accessorised with a black quilted chain-strap bag and black patent t-bar heels. 


I love her bouffant hair with this look, although I think a coloured pump may have worked better with the colours of the dress.

Myleene Klass in Marks and Spencer

'Popstar to Operastar' presenter Myleene Klass made an appearance on 'Daybreak' earlier this week. She wore a red floral lace dress from Marks and Spencer, of which she is one of the faces along with Dannii Minogue, Twiggy, Lisa Snowdon and Ana Beatriz Barros. 


The dress is the perfect length for a sit-down interview; perhaps she could give a few tips to poor Sheryl Crow! It is hard to believe Myleene gave birth to her second daughter, Hero, just 11 weeks ago!


The dress is very reminiscent of the much-copied Erdem dress.

Celebrity to Realway: Jennifer Lopez

 

Actress and singer Jennifer Lopez attended the Samsung Hope for Children Gala at Cipriani Wall Street, in New York, earlier this week. She wore a red Temperley London Drape Shoulder Ruffle Cocktail Dress from the Fall 2011 ready-to-wear collection, and added Christian Louboutin 'Lady' nude peep-toe pumps. 


French Connection have created a similar dress to Jennifer's, in deep blue, which shares the same asymmetrical style and ruffle detail on the shoulder. French Connection's version nips in a the waist but has a flared skirt, so it is certainly a more forgiving choice if you don't have the body of J-Lo!


French Connection created their 'London' dress to celebrate London Fashion Week and gave it the bargain-tastic price of £35, considerably less than the average FC dress!

Runway to Realway: Victoria Beckham vs. Reiss

 

Victoria Beckham's S/S '11 signaled a new direction for the designer as she introduced a looser silhouette to her range; only one of the 26 looks presented had a corset, compared to previous collections where they were included in almost every look. 


This was my absolute favourite of all of Victoria's collections, and it seems that Reiss agree as they took inspiration from the opening dress presented to create this electric blue 'Pearl' silk dress. It features a similar knotted detail at the waist and loose short-sleeves. 


Victoria has worn this dress on at two occassions; once to celebrate her 37th birthday in April at an LA restaurant, and again, in black, to watch former manager and 'American Idol' creator Simon Fuller receive his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The designer is famously shy of her baby bump so the wrapping of the parachute silk at the front perfectly conceals it. She wore vertiginous nude Christian Louboutin Daffodil pumps on both occassions.
